Tweaks to Speed Up Internet Streaming Video

The birth of "Guerilla Video" sites, such as Peekvid.com, Alluc.org and Youtube.com have given users instant access to a plethora of free media files. Although streaming video technology offers instant access to video files, zero loading time is not always possible. There are many factors that attribute to your computer's ability to start videos immediately. Other factors such as choppy PC video playback and slow video streaming also hinder your viewing experience. There are easy fixes to these problems. Sometimes choosing another site for the source of the video streaming or a lower quality version of the video can award you with instant play. These alternatives are not always available. However, there are a number of tweaks that help speed up your streaming video startup times, eliminate choppy PC video play and stop slow streaming video.

Saw Band

Before we start with the tweaks to speed up slow streaming video, lets get a basic understanding of streaming video technology in order to stop choppy video. Streaming video is a prerecorded video files that can be distributed as part of a live broadcast "feed." The video signal is converted into a compressed digital signal and transmitted from a Web server. This server is able to be multicast the same file to multiple users at the same time. When you click on the on the video it is partially loaded before you can access it. This is known as "buffering". This helps you to load and play the video instantaneously. Now lets take a look on how to cut down on buffering time, stop slow streaming video and eliminate choppy PC video playback .

Common Streaming Video Problems

Problem #1: Choppy PC Video Playback--Choppy video is usually a PC performance related issue. Here are a few things you can try to stop choppy playback and improve computer performance.

Solution A. Turn Off Hardware Acceleration-All media applications require different aspects of your computer's hardware. Depending on the task, the requirements may change. Turning off hardware acceleration allows the application to set the requirements itself and not be forced to use one universal setting. Hardware acceleration has been to known to cause choppy PC playback, application crashes and slow streaming video problems.

You can eliminate the problem below:
1.Click on "Start"
2.Click "Control Panel"
3.Select the "Settings" tab and click on the "Advanced".
4.Click on the "Troubleshoot" tab.
5.Disable the hardware acceleration completely by dragging the slider to the extreme left.

Solution B. Turn off Video Acceleration-The reason for this tweak is the similar to hardware acceleration. This act frees up resources in your media player and not your hardware. However you will need to decrease video acceleration in your chosen player. Some sites like Youtube.com don't offer this option. However, Windows Media Player gives the ability to easily alter this problem, follow the steps below. Other players' instructions will vary.

1. In Windows Media Player
2. Click the "Tools" menu tab
3. Click on "Options"
4. Select the "Performance" tab.
5. Move the Video Acceleration Slider to "None"

Solution C. Adjust your Windows Desktop Visual Effects-You computer will get a significance boost in
speed. This tweak will also free up more resources for your media player and PC performance.

1.Click "Start", and then click "Control Panel".
2.Click "System" and Choose "Display".
3.Find the "Advanced" tab and Click
4.Under "Performance", Click "Settings"
5.Under "Visuals Effects", you may choose from a list of options such as "Adjust for best performance" or custom. If you choose Adjust for best performance all the features will be unchecked.

For more performance tips check the "Speed Up PC" to free up more resources to stop PC choppy playback.

Problem #2: Slow and Constant Buffering-This problem can be attributed to two factors internet speed and your media player. You can tweak your PC setting in both areas to cut down on slow streaming video. Remember that each player has its own buffer settings. Below is an how to change buffer setting in Media Player.

Solution A. Adjust Buffer Settings-- To change the default buffer settings in Windows Media Player, use the following steps:
1.Start Windows Media Player
2.Click the "View" men
3.Click "Options"
4.On the "Advanced" tab, click "Streaming Media"(Windows Media)
5.Click "Change" to alter the buffer settings.

Remember that the higher you set the buffer the more of the clip will be loaded. The waiting time before you can see or hear the file will be longer, but there should be fewer interruptions once the clip begins to play.

Solution B. Use a Video Specific Proxy-A proxy allows for popular files to be loaded onto its servers. This eliminates the need for your computer to load the files. For example if you use the proxy, YouTubeProxy.org, you will not have to wait for your computer to download popular YouTube.com content because it may be already loaded in the server. This is a great way to stop slow streaming video.

These are just a few tips to eliminate choppy PC video playback and slow streaming video. However, there are more advanced ways to stop this problem. Depending on the site, there may be independent software developed specifically to speed up slow streaming video. Also, remember the general maintenance is a good way to avoid choppy PC video playback.

Why Did the US Invade Iraq in 2003? A New Theory

For what motive did the United States invade Iraq in 2003? The question is seldom asked anymore, and the answer is just as elusive as it was seven years ago. Let me first say that I'm a firm believer that democracy would have been extinguished 65 years ago were it not for the might and strong egalitarian principles of the United States. True democracy grants us the right to question the actions of the very same people who guarantee and protect such freedoms... and question we must!

Saw Band

The 2001 invasion of Afghanistan had the UN's seal of approval and included the direct participation of many countries, including several Muslim nations. The crude Islamic Taliban regime harbored and aided the Osama Bin Laden and his band of Al Qaeda terrorists who had masterminded the September 11 attacks and taunted the Americans. Nobody doubted that they had brought the war on themselves and that the United States was righteously defending itself from further terrorist attempts. For once, the world was fully behind the United States, but two years later, president George W Bush overestimated how far that support could stretch and began hinting at a new front, this time in Iraq, or should I say, once again in Iraq.

Saw Band

A true coalition force with United Nations backing led by the US had repelled Iraqi forces from Kuwait in 1991, the oil rich emirate that Saddam Hussein had savagely snatched in 1990. Hussein had grossly miscalculated the West's will to defend the tiny territory, and the entire world watched via CNN as his army was completely demolished, the victim of operation Desert Storm. Allied armored columns arrived at the gates of Baghdad and the brutal Hussein dictatorship appeared to be on the verge of ending. However, the troops never entered the capital. Why? To understand Iraq War 2003, you have to grasp the tenets of the end game of Iraq War 1991. As recognized by president George Bush Sr himself, removing the Iraqi government from office was beyond the UN's mandate and would have resulted in the need for a prolonged occupation, as it was widely believed that a bloodbath among the many Iraqi factions would have erupted shortly after the Hussein regime was toppled. Further tying their hands was the fact that their Middle Eastern allies strongly objected to any scenario involving US/allied occupation of Iraq. In other words, everybody knew that it would have been a political and military quagmire to depose Hussein at the time. The calculation proved to be correct and the badly wounded Iraqis were no longer a threat for the next decade.

What made Washington change its mind in 2003, knowing full well that an occupation would bear the same consequences as it would have in 1991? All the arguments used to justify the war, including the presence of weapons of mass destruction on Iraqi soil, collaboration between Hussein and Al Qaeda, as well as insinuations of Iraqi involvement in the September 11 attacks, were all widely discredited even before the first shot was fired. Yet forge ahead they did, embarking on a costly crusade without the United Nations on board, with strong condemnation from several European allies, and with only a symbolic participation by foreign troops save for the UK, its staunchest supporter. It's worth noting that while the international community did not approve of the war, the American public was overwhelmingly supportive. One has to remember that never before had Americans felt so vulnerable on their own soil. The invisible enemy was everywhere, and thus when their government told them they knew where to find them, they opted to believe. A 2007 Newsweek opinion poll showed that 40% of Americans still believed that Iraqis participated in 9-11 despite all evidence to the contrary, including a 2006 interview with Bush where he admitted Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with the attacks. The profound change in the American psyche since 2001 is fully understandable and should never be derided.

All this, however, doesn't answer the real question: why did the US push this agenda, knowing the fallout could be severe? I refuse to believe that the United States, which has the largest and most sophisticated intelligence gathering network and more thinkers and advisors than any other country on earth, can make rash decisions based on weak intel. Yes, mistakes can be made, but it doesn't seem rational that an average of two billion dollars a week* would be spent on a mistake for seven years with no end in sight. No, the bumbling fools theory is too far fetched. There had to be concrete reasons and goals for this endeavor, which can't be revealed.

It's now known that George W Bush had an Iraqi invasion on his mind the minute he took office in 2001. Was the aftermath of 9-11 just an opportune moment to execute his plan, disguising it with the mantle of the War on Terror? Again, this is part of the explanation of how Iraq 2003 saw the light of day, but it doesn't answer the big Why! How do you convince the military and political establishment to go along with a whimsical war? Doesn't seem plausible. The most popular theory holds that the US needed to secure a vast source of petroleum and interfere with OPEC. Iraq has the world's fourth largest proven oil reserves**. Hussein was already a pariah in the Muslim world, his armed forces in shambles, thus a cheap target politically. I'm immediately suspicious of any conspiracy theory that involves both big US oil companies and the US government, even if it was espoused by Alan Greenspan, the former head of the US central bank, and Ralph Nader's Green Party. The US has only invaded other countries for political, never economic, motives. Why would that have suddenly changed?

The Green party issued a press release, February 24, 2003, one month before the offensive in Iraq began, that offered evidence that this war was all about oil. It cited, among other things, the fact that Senator Richard Lugar, then on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had warned France and Russia that they wouldn't have a share in Iraq's oil resources if they didn't sign-on as members of the coalition (they didn't). It also denounced that Richard Perle, chair of the Defense Policy Board wrote a paper in 2002 recommending the invasion of Iraq as a first step in gaining control over middle eastern oil. Presidential candidate John McCain seemed to admit the war was about oil during one of his town hall meetings in 2008, but then again he said a lot of things off the cuff, even claiming he knew how to find Osama Bin Laden. Many pundits in early 2003 also made the case that Iraq has some of the largest unexploited known oil and gas reserves in the world, making it an attractive acquisition. Sobering facts, no doubt, but the oddest piece of news was that in January 2003, while the Pentagon was perfecting its invasion plans, the US faced a 1.5 million barrel a day shortfall. Who did they turn to avoid a crisis? That's right, Iraq! The US thereby demonstrated that it already held considerable influence over Iraqi oil via American and allied petroleum conglomerates.

Post-2003 Iraqi crude oil production has been in the two million to 2.4 million barrels a day range, comparable to the pre-2003 output**. One has to remember that the country still suffers from widespread infrastructure damage from the wars with Iran and the 2003 coalition, as well as recurring terrorist attacks against oil facilities, particularly pipelines. Additionally, Iraq must still pay 5 percent of oil revenues as compensation to Kuwait (it was 25 percent prior to 2003), as per UN sanctions, a cost that must be passed on to production companies. However, projections for 2014 call for a daily production level of 4.5 million barrels. Overall, some estimates place Iraq's potential at 12 million barrels per day, which, if realized, would place it first in the world. Iraq currently exports roughly 540 thousand barrels per day** to the USA, or roughly a fifth of its production, placing it sixth among US suppliers. The bulk of Iraq's oil exports go to China and India, countries which did not form part of the 2003 coalition. Furthermore, in recent oil field auctions held by the Iraqi oil ministry, it was Russian and Chinese firms that walked away with the juiciest deals. The biggest irony is that Iraq is still an active member of the hated OPEC cartel. Suddenly, the war for oil argument looks rather weak!

The other theory that circulated was that the US sought to stem the tide of radical Islamism by installing a democracy in a significant Middle Eastern country, namely Iraq. This theory was spurred by comments made by George W Bush before the war, arguing that removing Hussein and putting in place a democratic system would have a domino effect in the region. The domino theory has been around since the 1950's and was used first in reference to the spread of communism. Bush's team simply adapted the idea, turning it into democratic contagion. Again, Iraq offered the least politically costly target and shares borders with five non-democratic Middle Eastern countries. Due to the very nature of Islam, a western style democracy in a predominantly Muslim country seems far fetched. To wit, in nearly 5 years since the first democratic elections in Iraq, there has been no signs of such a phenomenon spreading in the area, although it's quite possible should Baghdad bring years of stability to its own people, something that appears unlikely at this point. In summary, the domino theory does have merit, but it stresses credibility as the main ulterior motive for such an immense and risky undertaking as an armed invasion followed by years of occupation.

Another theory: they wanted to get rid of Saddam Hussein. A British classified document from 2002 was leaked to the press in 2005. Its wording made it clear that George W Bush had wanted to remove Hussein from power and needed to put a legal spin to a military action aimed at achieving this. The spin was the weapons of mass destruction and the terrorist connection. Why was it so urgent to remove Hussein, who as a threat was already neutralized since 1991? In this case, the only possible answer is that twelve years had passed since Desert Storm, the US had the wind in its favor and there would never come a better time to install a pro-Washington government. Hussein's time had simply run out. Why didn't the US choose to foment a revolt from within, a far cheaper and discreet method for forcing a regime change? One can speculate that perhaps the dark horses available did not meet expectations, or that the formula had been tried and failed. Lest we forget, the US had forcibly removed heads of state before, in Panama and in Grenada, and to this day both countries prosper under democratic systems without the need for a prolonged occupation. Perhaps that experience influenced the decision to use brute force? For Iraq, I will suggest that using the military was not an option, but the real goal. That's another theory that hasn't been given any air time that I know of.

One only has to look at a map of the Middle East to realize the strategic importance of Iraq. Iran, America's long time nemesis and the founding nation of the Islamic revolution and the biggest advocate of international terrorism, shares a long western border with Iraq, not to mention an eastern border with Afghanistan, where coalition troops are also entrenched. To the west of Iraq lies Syria, another terrorist supporting pariah state. Having American troops so close by presents a sobering scenario to both these states and any that could fall under the influence of the rising tide of Islamic extremism. The invasion sent an unequivocal message to its enemies: that America wasn't a giant with feet of clay, that it wasn't afraid to wield its power preemptively and unilaterally.

Why did the US invade Iraq in 2003? Answer: for strategic reasons. The time was right politically, Iraq's army wasn't a serious obstacle and nobody in the Arab world cared about Hussein anymore, who had been humiliated for more than a decade. Seen from this angle, the war in Iraq can be perceived as a victory for the US, as it achieved its goals: installing a friendly regime in Baghdad, putting US forces in a controlling position in the Middle East, as well as sending a strong message to the enemy. Not meaning to be cynical, but Sunnis and Shiites massacring one another was expected and may have been deemed acceptable collateral damage. For those who preferred the war for oil theory, the irony is that the West's oil supplies are now more secure than they've ever been. Oil security may well have been one of the goals of the invasion. The strategic scenario also answers the other lingering question: when will US troops leave Iraq, and why did Obama backpedal on his troop withdrawal plan? Because of the long term threat posed by radical Islamism, US troops will likely remain in Iraq, as well as in Afghanistan for a long time to come.

For obvious reasons, Washington couldn't tell the truth, and still can't tell the truth. What's amazing is that even the President of the United States lied to the American public, stumbled badly when the lies were uncovered, yet got away with never telling the truth! I don't think there's any precedent in American history, but again I must repeat that these are special times, and it's almost certain that those who know the truth will cite national security as the reason for their secrecy.

This is just another theory and only time will tell if it's correct, when some Pentagon or White House insider finally blows the whistle. What you must never forget is that it's your right to know the truth, even if it's a question of national security.

Eulogy to My Father, My Hero

My father was born in 1926 in Montreal, Canada and lived there for 11 years. His parents were Leon and Edna Zareski. He was the oldest of three children, the other two being- a sister, Audrey, and brother, Norman.

Saw Band

What I would like to do now is tell you about my father. I want you to walk away from here with a better understanding and appreciation of his life and who he was. And I am going to acquaint you with some aspects of his life with which you may not be familiar - the soldier, the geologist, and the sports fan... but first...

Saw Band

My father as a young boy - the ketchup story.

The setting for the ketchup story is my father's boyhood home in 1931 in Montreal, Canada. He is 5 years old. Most of you knew my father as a man who was unassuming, judicious with words, and diplomatic. [Smile..] But he wasn't always like that...

My father's father (my grandfather) came home from work one evening to find a bottle of homemade ketchup that the lady next door had made and brought over. (Apparently this was not the first such bottle of ketchup.) My grandfather uttered a few choice words, grabbed the ketchup bottle, opened the back door, and threw the bottle into the cow pasture.

Several days later, the lady, who made the ketchup, came over and asked how they liked it. My father (the young boy) gleefully exclaimed,
"Oh! Dad threw the ketchup out back to the cows!"

Needless to say, that was the last bottle of ketchup that women ever made for the family! [Pause...]

My father was a Soldier

Tom Brokaw wrote a book about the generation of unassuming men and woman who went off to fight in WWII - the name of the book is "The Greatest Generation." I am proud to state my father was a participating member of this "greatest generation." [Pause...]

For years - in fact decades - after the War he did not talk about his involvement. Only after the movie, 'Saving Private Ryan," which came out 50 years after the War, did he begin to open up about some of his experiences.

Whatever plans he had for college as an 18-year old were placed on hold as he went off to boot camp. He said he almost lost the ring finger on his right hand during hand-to-hand combat drills in boot camp when a bootlace of the soldier he was fighting got caught in his ring. After that experience, he was never too fond of wearing rings. His parents had given him that ring in 1944 as a high school graduation present.

This is the ring, and I am proud to wear it now.

He was in the Army's 78th Infantry Division (known as the 'Lightning" Division), 311th Regiment.

After completing boot camp, he was literally shipped to the front lines of the European Theater, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the Winter of 1944/45. Rain and mud of December gave way to the snow and bitter cold of January, 1945. Thick snow draped the hills and valleys, and hung from fir trees in a picture-card beauty that belied the horror of war.

That winter was the coldest winter in Europe in 50 years. The infantry dug holes in the snow each night and did their best to keep warm and get some sleep. He told of how he would go without bathing for two to three weeks at a time. He explained that his most precious article of clothing was his socks - the only article of clothing of which he carried two pair. He would wash one pair as often as possible, so that his feet would not rot. You see, when you are in the infantry and constantly on the move, your feet become your most important asset.

Throughout that winter, the 78th Infantry held the area it had taken from the Siegfried Line against the violent German attacks. In the march toward the Rhine River, the 78th engaged in bitter, painful fighting. From town to town, foxhole to foxhole, hedgerow to hedgerow, from cellar to cellar, rubble heap to rubble heap, the Germans resisted the advance but were methodically killed or captured.

Another famous battle, in which he saw action, was the Bridge at Remagen. On March 8, 1945, just 4 days after his 19th birthday, he was among the first troops to embark on the nightmare crossing of the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen. The Germans were firing down upon the bridge from the opposite hillside. Try to imagine what it was like crossing this bridge on foot and under heavy fire. Bullets were flying everywhere...flying metal ricocheted against steel girders. He exclaimed that he never ran so fast in his life, so as to get to the other side. [Pause...]

He told me of how afterwards, when the bridge was secured, his battalion sat on the hillside for several hours and watched in amazement as the Allied Forces literally shoved everything they had across the bridge -- soldiers, vehicles, supplies, and artillery. He noted recently that it was one of the most remarkable sights of his entire life.

This battle has been the subject of many books and movies due to its historical significance. The spectacular crossing at Remagen and the securing of the first Rhine River bridgehead marked an important turning point in the war, and marked the beginning of the final phase in the Allied annihilation of Nazi Germany.

At 19 years of age, he was promoted to Sergeant. He was the only member of his original squad who was left standing - the others were either killed or wounded in battle. [Pause...] He once told Sharon he believed it was meant for him to live, because everyone else around him was killed. [Pause...]

On April 17th, after 128 days of continuous front-line duty and intense fighting, -- 128 days of continuous fighting -- the Lightning Division was taken off the front line and put into reserve for a well-earned rest. [Pause...]

In 2000, he and Sharon went back to Remagen for a 55-year reunion of this battle. When he and Sharon came upon a corner of a particular building in town, he pointed to a window across the street and told Sharon of how 55 years earlier, a German soldier had fired at him from that window and had him pinned down. [Pause...]

My father was a Geologist

After the War, in 1952, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Geology from Brooklyn College in N.Y. That same year he married my mother, Eleanor Zareski, and they moved to Tuscon, Arizona. He was in the process of taking courses towards a Master's Degree at the University of Arizona, when I came along. My parents also had two daughters - my sisters, Carol and Lisa. [Smile...]

My father was intelligent, hard working, and enjoyed a successful professional career.

He began as a field geologist and surveyor in Utah and out West in the early 1950s, where he and a small band of surveyors set out to discover uranium deposits for the Atomic Energy Commission, a branch of the US Government.

Can anyone guess what the Government was doing with this uranium?
It was used in the development of Atomic bombs. [Pause...]

For several decades - 1960s, 70s and 80s - a sample of uranium from one of his discoveries was on display in Washington, D.C. in the Museum of Natural History. [Pause...]

Over the years, he rose through the Government ranks to the level of GS15 and when he retired, he was the Deputy Director of the Bureau of Natural Gas and Director of the Oil and Gas information System within the Department of Energy.

After he retired from the Government in the early 1980s, he joined a consulting firm, Zinder Associates, as Senior Vice President.

In 1981, my father married Sharon. Words cannot express how grateful I am to Sharon for the unconditional love, dedication and absolute devotion that Sharon bestowed on my father, especially in his last months and weeks.

My father was a Sports Fan

He loved to play golf. He was skillful (and lucky) enough to score two holes in one in his lifetime.

He was an avid Redskins fan - he watched the Redskins games just about every week since the mid 1960s - that is more than 40 years!

He was a huge Baseball fan - In his youth, he played sandlot baseball in New York - he was a pitcher. He threw a great slider, and tried to teach me that pitch, when I was younger, but I never could master it like him.

Closing...
It's funny the stories that you remember...

My sisters and I used to enjoy playing a unique game with my Dad. It was called 'Dad takes off his belt and chases the three of us around the main floor of the house.' We would even initiate this game. We would run around laughing and screaming in fear of being whacked across the legs by his belt. Getting hit did not occur too frequently, but the thought of it made the game both exciting and terrorizing. Sometimes he would even make it scarier by turning off the lights.

The year is 1971, my first year at W&M. If it were not for my father, I would not have passed Freshman English, a writing course that was mandatory for graduation. For those of you who are too young to remember, in 1971 there were no desktop computers, no Internet, email, or word processing capability. The typewriter was it. After I failed my first several writing assignments, I sent a draft copy of each new assignment by mail to my father, who corrected and rewrote my papers, as necessary, and mailed them back to me. I, or should I say we, raised my final grade up to a C.

My father was a man of few words and not easily angered or perturbed. We used to play golf every Sunday in Front Royal. He would do the driving to the course in the early morning, and I would drive us home in the early afternoon. On one particular Sunday afternoon in the early 1970s, while I was driving us home, my father took his usual nap. Well, I must have dozed off at the wheel, because the next thing I know the car was traversing side ways [Hands] down the grassy median strip on Route 50 in Chantilly. We hit a road sign and flipped it across the hood of the car. Grass and hay were flying through the open windows and pass our heads. Onlookers were watching in amazement from the nearby fruit stand. Finally, I gained control of the car and stopped, then got back onto the highway. My father, who was now awake and holding onto the seat for dear life [Hands] exclaimed in bewilderment, "What the hell are you doing!?" I replied, "I am trying to get us back on the road!" He never said another word.

[Pause...]
My father and I had a great relationship. I respected and admired him. He is the man who had the most influence on the man I became. He is the man who had the most influence on the man I became. He is my hero.

And our relationship extended beyond just father and son. We were close friends. We had similar interests and genuinely enjoyed each other's company. Whether spending long weekends together at Nags Head or Williamsburg, or dining in our favorite restaurants with Sharon and Sandi, or just quiet times at home, we enjoyed many quality times together.

I love him and shall miss him dearly.

I thank all of you for coming here to lend support to Sharon, my sisters and their families, and my family -- and to pay respect to my beloved father.

Thank you.

Eulogy to My Father, My Hero

Why Do People Prefer Brand Name Products?

When given people are given the choice to buy a brand name product or a lower priced "no-name"/generic product, they often prefer brand name products. They are not very concerned about how much they spend for Nike sportswear, Poma Shoes and Oshkosh children's clothing. But when it comes to cheaper no-name products they look down upon them and consider them unusable. So many generic products end up on the clearance or reduction shelves. Why do people think brand names are so much better than generic? Are they really better? Perhaps we have been tricked into believing that generic or cheaper products are unworthy?

Saw Band

More than a hundred years ago, businesses started the idea of branding products so that people would find it easier to know the difference between premium manufactured products and the products which are cheaper and less known.

Saw Band

Manufacturers of the late 1800's, created packaging, labels and advertising so that customers would easily recognize and find their favourite products on the store shelves. This identical branding method continues to be used to allow people all over the world to easily identify the superior quality products of America over less trustworthy products on the marketplace.

Traditionally, the USA is recognized for their high quality brand name products which enable them to have the power to charge higher prices. People worldwide know just what they are receiving when they buy from the US.

It is standard for product brands to be reliable and high in value. When a customer trusts a brand name product they will most likely purchase the product/service repeatedly. Therefore, repeat customers raise the profits of brand products much more than generic brands.

When a customer chooses a product, their memory is triggered and they remember a television commercial they saw, or a jingle they heard on the radio or the big sign they see while driving home from work every day. This makes them familiar with the product more than inexpensive products. Even if you are not in a store, some of the jingles you have heard get stuck in your head and you find yourself singing or humming them.

Does branding a product work with internet sales? Branding a web site is more essential than the branding of separate products. Studies reveal that online buyers look more for sites that they can trust and sell what they want at lower prices than the actual brands that are for sale. Therefore, web sites which sell products need to take extra time to advertise their website more than the product itself.

The purpose of most advertising methods is to learn about what customers are searching for and make it available to them. In conventional retail stores, superior qualities branded products are very important. At the same time, people who buy products on the internet are looking for better than ever quality web sites.

Who Is Top Of The Chainsaw Tree?

Stihl has long been at the top of the chainsaw tree although many would argue that Husqvarna is right there with it. It's an interesting rivalry with both brands having their loyal band of followers.

Saw Band

2006 has been a productive year for Stihl who have confirmed their status in the world of chainsaws with recognition in the October edition of Consumers Digest. No less than four of it's chainsaws received "Best Buy" commendations which is no mean feat considering the magazine doesn't hand out these type of accolades lightly.

Stihl's Innovation

One of the major reason's that Stihl has remained top of the tree is it's ability to continually usurp technology and come up with outstanding innovations. One of these is what they call the Easy2Start feature which makes starting the world's most dangerous power tool an effortless exercise. In fact, it's suggested that just about anyone can start a chainsaw with this feature although for good safety practice, it might be a good idea to let the kids keep playing with the toy models.

Husqvarna: Looking To The Future

Meanwhile, Husqvarna isn't laying idle in it's endeavours to stay stride-for-stride with Stihl in the chainsaws race. It also has smart start technology which from a chainsaw users point-of-view is "just what the doctor ordered." Why? Well, when dealing with such a volatile and dangerous power tool as a chainsaw, the less effort one has to expend in operating it the safer it is.

Husqvarna recently announced one of it's new breed of chainsaws designed for the homeowner market simply called the 240. One of the features of this machine, due for release next year, is it's excellent anti-vibration system which again, gets into the area of user comfort. Fatigue is a dangerous hazard in the use of any large power tool but more so with chainsaws. In the past, large vibrating chainsaws meant the operator was continually expending vital energy in maintaining his machine at a smooth a level as possible but in doing so, fatigue and tiredness would creep in which would ultimately lead to carelessness and accidents in many instances.

Producing Better Chainsaws

It's interesting to see the larger companies now producing machines aimed at the homeowners. Chainsaws were once the domain of the professional lumberjack but with technology evolving at a rapid rate, particularly during the last decade, smaller, yet powerful chainsaws are being produced. This has seen a virtually untapped market emerge in the shape of the non-professional user and manufacturers have been quick to seize the initiative and cater to them.

The big players like Stihl and Husqvarna will continue to go neck-and-neck in their endeavours to remain in front which means only one thing; consumers will reap the benefits through increased and better technology.
